I chose this sketch for my first look. I used the projector to take the exact pattern of the piece and reproduce it out of fabric.
For this small collection, my objective was to create a conversation about Art’s ability to transcend different mediums. I used the graffiti sketch and made a garment following its exact proportions. The Knit look was a pure expression of all of my studies combined.
The result of my attempt is making graffiti out of fabric and recycled materials.
100% recycled plastic bottles insulation layer, a reflective construction fabric lining, and 7 layers of different applique methods shell
I used a recycled Neoprene diving suit for the outline.
Using the roughness of construction, I wanted to depict the wild nature of graffiti culture. This look contains over 150 pattern pieces to project the complexity that one may find upon entering the world of graffiti.
This look consists of my studies for knitting machine capabilities. Working with different techniques and punch card designs, I would spend hours in the knitting studio. Being invested in learning machine knitting, it felt like revisiting my experience with graffiti earlier in my life.
Peace Club Art Show in Providence, RI
My family was always extremely skeptical about my interest in graffiti. This show proved my family’s acceptance of my “art” form. My mother and grandfather participated in the art show next to my graffiti, landing us in the local newspaper in Connecticut, putting my graffiti in print!
